As Operator Technician, you’ll be responsible for the technical setup, operation, maintenance, and first-level troubleshooting of automated and semi-automated packaging equipment. You’ll support production efficiency, optimize line performance, and ensure all activities meet cGMP, quality, safety, and regulatory standards while working closely with Production, Mechanical, and Quality teams.

Your impact:

  • Equipment Setup & Operation: Set up, operate, change over, dismantle, assemble, and replace parts on packaging equipment including bottle, vial, blister, and inkjet printing systems to support safe and efficient production.
  • Technichal Troubleshooting: Assess, analyze, and perform minor mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and adjustments to minimize downtime and maintain consistent line performance.
  • Production Efficiency: Optimize equipment performance by applying knowledge of packaging materials and machine settings such as heat sealing, dwell time, and pressure to reduce waste and improve throughput.
  • Quality & Compliance: Perform in-process checks (IPCs), finished package testing, and batch reconciliation activities to ensure products meet quality specifications and cGMP requirements.
  • Documentation & Accuracy: Complete all Quality Assurance documentation accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with regulatory and Quality Management System standards.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Support preventive maintenance activities and equipment calibrations, including scale calibration after roll changes to maintain measurement accuracy.
  • Material Control: Verify packaging components against work orders using FIFO principles, replace film, fill hoppers, and replenish materials to maintain uninterrupted line operation.
  • Line Clearance and Sanitation: Perform line clearance and sanitize equipment and rooms according to standard operating procedures, including adherence to clean and dirty hold time requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Packers, Mechanics, and Production Leaders to meet safety, quality, productivity, and production targets.
  • Issue Escalation: Identify and escalate quality issues, equipment defects, or safety concerns to support timely resolution and risk mitigation
  • Training & Support: Provide training and guidance to Operators or new team members to promote safe work practices and consistent operating standards
  • Operational Support: Perform packaging or hand-assembly tasks when required and ensure proper clean-up of equipment and work areas as directed by the Production Leader.
  • Safety & Standards: Follow all safety, health, environmental, and quality procedures as outlined by internal systems and regulatory requirements.

What you’ll bring

  • High school diploma required; technical diploma or certificate in mechanical/electrical field is an asset
  • 2+ years of experience in a GMP-regulated or pharmaceutical/medical device or GMP-regulated packaging environment
  • Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude, including troubleshooting sensors, relays, and positioning systems.
  • Familiarity with PLC/HMI interfaces, vision systems, and serialization equipment.
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting SOPs, batch records, and technical documentation
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent documentation habits
  • Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude
  • Ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods in a production environment
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts including weekends, overnights, or rotating schedules as needed
  • Experience within a pharmaceutical or food environment
  • Understanding/familiarity of cGMP
  • Experience within a regulated environment packaging/food/pharmaceutical (FDA, Health Canada)
