As our Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Specialist, you will lead and support the development, implementation, and facilitation of health and safety programs, training, and procedures within the Packaging Services Business Unit. In this role, you will actively engage with leadership and play a key role in the Joint Health & Safety Committee, driving continuous improvements through meetings, inspections, and education, while fostering a strong culture of health and safety.
More about your responsibilities:
- Health & Safety Program Development: Lead the design and implementation of health and safety training, programs such as fire safety, lockout/tag out, ergonomics, and working at heights.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with the JHSC to support audits, inspections, and workplace improvement initiatives. Lead safety training, provide guidance to leadership, and influence safety behaviours across teams.
- Risk & Incident Management: Assess and control hazards, ensuring proactive risk identification and incident prevention. Manage WSIB claims, workers' compensation processes, and early return-to-work programs.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with HSE regulations and environmental standards, while monitoring hazardous waste processes and supporting contractor safety programs. Analyze and report on HSE data to ensure continuous improvement.
- Emergency Response & Safety Systems: Lead emergency response programs and ensure adherence to HSE policies and quality management systems to maintain a safe and compliant workplace.
What you’ll bring:
- Completion of a College Diploma/Certificate or University Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related program.
- 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment focusing on HSE.
- Strong knowledge of OHSA, Environmental Legislation, WSIB policies, and safety management systems (ISO14001, ISO45001, OHSAS 18001).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office 365 and analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while supporting team goals and driving a positive safety culture.

- Experience within a pharmaceutical or food environment
- Understanding/familiarity with cGMP
- Experience within a regulated environment packaging/food/pharmaceutical (FDA, Health Canada)
