As Pre-Press Technician, your responsibilities will include preparing and executing packaging designs for production, combining graphic design with prepress operations and CAD programming. You’ll troubleshoot design issues, support sample production, and collaborate with internal teams and clients to ensure high-quality outputs and accurate workflow documentation.
More about your responsibilities:
- Artwork Execution & Design: Use graphic software to create and adjust packaging artwork per customer specifications, supporting innovation and business development.
- Print Readiness & Troubleshooting: Evaluate customer-supplied designs for print compatibility, adjust files for production methods, and manage workflow databases.
- Proofing & Communication: Generate PDFs and external proofs for customer approvals, and liaise with customer service teams to resolve artwork issues.
- Structural Design & CAD: Program and produce blankets, mylars, and spot sheets using CAD software; support the creation of sales samples and prototypes.
- Colour Management: Maintain colour standards, manage expiration cycles, and support drawdown documentation and pre-production tasks.
- Print Component Prep: Produce and stage sheet-fed and narrow web components including plates, blankets, mylars, and proofs.
- Documentation & Support: Maintain docket information, assist with reports and presentations, and support internal graphic design requests.
- Compliance & Safety: Follow all Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental Management System procedures.
What you’ll bring
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Packaging Design, Visual Communications, or a related field
- Certifications or training in CAD software (e.g., ArtiosCAD) and print production processes are assets
- 2–5 years of experience in a prepress or packaging design environment
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and CAD software
- Familiarity with flexographic, offset, and digital print methods and file preparation standards
- Experience in prototyping and sample creation in a production setting is preferred
